You will not be able to put this book down Reviewed in the United States on June 2, 2022 Verified Purchase I was so enthralled with this novel. It was completely engaging and I certainly could relate to so many of the themes around family issues, good and bad. The writer and the talented reader on Audible created a beautiful description of events and characters. I would not be surprised to see this on a streaming service as a binge worthy series!! Highly recommended, in fact, don't hesitate, buy it today along with the Audible.

The audiobook by Justine Reiss has breathtaking characterizations Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2022 I felt like I got to experience the story more vividly because of Justine Reiss' brilliant narration. The audio made me feel like i was part of the family and Florence Reiss Kraut's dialogue really brought the characters to life. The intricate details of the family dynamic spread across a 100 year time span from a pogrom to the apartments in NY was a history lesson. This is a beautiful matriarchal story dealing with mental illness, intergenerational trauma and stories of love and loss. I can't recommend this book enough, you will not want to put it down. Waiting for the Netflix tele-series.

Storytelling is Superb Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2023 'How to Make a Life' is a very well written book with stories of tribulation & triumph, and how one family members decision can have a negative or positive effect on the next generation without even realizing what they are doing. The narrator Justine Reiss brings the story to life and makes you feel, like the lessons our characters are learning, are lessons that we all need to learn too ourselves. I felt truly connected to this book and was thoroughly impressed by how it was narrated.

Justine Reiss Brings this Story to Life Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2022 Just the audio preview had me HOOKED on this novel. I love historical fiction and stories about Jewish families, in particular, as that is my heritage. But Ms. Reiss's voice characterizations are incredible! She seamlessly weaves the narration and the dialogue together to draw the listener into the experiences of this family. I highly recommend this audiobook!
